Our participants

Drivers' experience ranges from none to semi-professional. Some are indeed actual competitors, for instance in the Le Mans 24 hours, and similar international events. Others are complete driving novices ! As diverse as they are, they all share a passion for the car, for the pleasure of safe drifting at high speed and a desire for safe control of the vehicle on road or circuit.

Background

1989 : Eric Gallardo trained as an automotive test engineer for Lotus. A former No.1 test driver for General Motors’ European branch, French GT4 Vice-Champion, and most of all a car "fanatic". In 1997, whilst training other professional test drivers on the ice in Lapland, the idea for Lapland Ice Driving was born. And eight years later, it became a reality.

Winter 2006 : The first Lapland Ice Driving season in the Far North. The year 2009 marked a turning-point with major investment enabling the development of a number of completely private tracks, along with an exclusive world first- a full-scale reproduction of the Paul Ricard Formula 1 circuit.

Today Lapland Ice Driving is without doubt the world reference for top-class ice driving. And proving the point are the 30 broadcast TV reviews and more than 300 press articles.
